Cubs

Join 1st Effingham Cubs – Adventure Starts Here!

Are you ready for your child to discover new skills, make friends, and embark on unforgettable adventures? At 1st Effingham Cubs, we welcome girls and boys turning aged 8 to 10½ to join a lively community where fun, friendship, and learning go hand in hand.

Why Join Cubs?

Cubs is more than just a weekly club – it’s a place where young people prepare for life. Through Scouting, your child will:

  • Master new skills and try exciting activities
  • Build confidence and develop character
  • Make lasting friendships
  • Explore the world with curiosity and care
  • Help others and make a real difference in the community

What Do Cubs Do?

Every week, our Cubs get hands-on with a huge variety of activities designed to help them grow, learn, and have fun:

Adventure Awaits

From racing down rivers to telling stories by torchlight, Cubs spend plenty of time outdoors. Whether it’s building dens, hiking under the stars, or cooking on an open fire, every meeting is a new opportunity for adventure – right on our doorstep!

Skills for Life

Cubs learn by doing. Your child will pick up practical skills like first aid and cooking, as well as teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. These experiences help build resilience, initiative, and integrity, qualities that will benefit them for life.

Making a Difference

Cubs work together to help others, both locally and globally. From supporting food banks to planting trees or visiting care homes, our Cubs learn the value of community and kindness.

Our Cub Pack

Our Cub section is active, friendly, and always on the go! Here’s just a taste of what we got up to in 2025:

  • Hikes (including night hikes)
  • Kayaking and camping weekends
  • Cooking (indoors and on open fires)
  • First aid and craft projects
  • Team games and leadership challenges
  • Remembrance Sunday Parade
  • Exploring cultures (like Diwali candle making)
  • Map reading and local adventures
  • Visits to the fire station and care homes

Cubs also take part in district competitions, earning badges and working towards the prestigious Chief Scout Silver Award.

When and Where?

Cubs meet every Thursday during term time, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

When Cubs reach 10½, they ‘swim up’ to Scouts, where even more adventures await!
